Apps

An exploratory look at the principles first-party Omarchy applications would need to share, distinct from community Plugins.

A first-party app should earn its place.

Omarchy is exploring which applications belong close to the system and which ideas are better left to the community. The distinction is not ownership for its own sake. It is whether an application can carry a clear point of view about how the computer should feel and work.

That makes principles the first job. A catalog can wait.

What should shared applications hold in common?

  • Which visual decisions make a tool feel at home without sanding off its purpose?
  • Which keyboard conventions reduce relearning without turning every interaction into a rule?
  • Where should configuration remain visible, portable, and understandable to the person changing it?
  • What would make the update story legible instead of surprising?

Plugins are a different kind of contribution.

Community Plugins already give people a place to share additions and experiments. They do not need to imitate a first-party application idea to be valuable. The current directory is the right destination when you want to see what the community is making.
